Paula Renzi-Callaghan Owner and Casting Director

As the owner and casting director of Callaghan Casting, Paula Renzi-Callaghan is dedicated to finding the perfect talent for your projects. With years of experience in the entertainment industry, Paula has a keen eye for talent and a deep understanding of the casting process.

Paula's Expertise:

  • Diverse Casting Experience: From TV pilots and commercials to films, documentaries, and music videos, Paula has a proven track record of casting exceptional talent.

  • Industry Knowledge: Her extensive experience as an actor in film, television, and theatre as well as her time living in New York City give her a unique perspective on the industry.

  • Union Affiliations: Paula is a long-standing member of both SAG-AFTRA and AEA.

  • Audition Workshops: Paula teaches workshops to help aspiring actors improve their audition skills.

While residing in New York City for a number of years, Paula acted in soap operas (As The World Turns, All My Children, and The City) and in New York theatre (Manhattan Theatre Club) and regional theatre (McCarter Theatre.) She originated the role of Henry’s Mother in the off-off Broadway play HENRY’S BRIDGE for Theatre For The New City in NYC. In NYC, her other credits include work in SAG films, union TV commercials, and voiceovers for Times-Mirror. She has also acted in industrials for State Farm in Chicago.

Paula hails from the Washington, D.C. area and in her younger, globe-trotting days, she lived in Lausanne, Switzerland and Florence, Italy studying French and Italian respectively. She holds a MFA in Theatre and a MA in French literature and language. She enjoys conversational French, and also reads Italian and Spanish.

Paula, David, and their daughter, Quinn, have lived in Alabama for over 25 years.

David Callaghan Casting Associate

David Callaghan is a casting associate at Callaghan Casting, bringing a wealth of experience and expertise to the team. Originally from New Jersey, David honed his skills in the bustling theatre scenes of Philadelphia and New York City.

His impressive resume includes:

  • Casting Experience: Working with renowned casting directors on Broadway and Off-Broadway productions, TV pilots, and independent films.

  • Directing Credits: Directing over 70 productions in educational and professional theater, including at Opera Birmingham and Red Mountain Theatre Company.

  • Teaching and Mentoring: Sharing his knowledge as an acting and auditioning instructor at AMDA and is on the faculty of the University of Montevallo.

  • Industry Recognition: Recipient of the Marion Galloway Award for Contributions to Theatre in Alabama.

David’s experience in Birmingham, AL includes Opera Birmingham and Red Mountain Theatre Company, where he served on the Board of Directors for six years. A professor of theatre and former department Chair at the University of Montevallo, he has taught acting and auditioning at UM, AMDA in NYC , and Illinois Wesleyan University. David also coordinates UM’s BFA senior showcase in NYC with The Growing Studio of New York and London. In 2023, David was the proud recipient of the Alabama Conference for Theatre’s Marion Galloway Award for Contributions to Theatre in Alabama.

He served as an Assistant and Associate Casting Director for Manhattan Theatre Club, Meg Simon Casting, and Eve Battaglia Casting, working on the original Broadway productions of Terence McNally’s LOVE! VALOUR! COMPASSION! and August Wilson’s SEVEN GUITARS, as well as the Off-Broadway hit SYLVIA. His TV and film credits include work on pilots for CBS (Cosby) and Fox, plus indie film.

David is an AEA Membership Candidate, Associate Member of SDC, and holds an MFA in Directing and a Ph.D. in Theatre and Film from the CUNY Graduate Center in NYC.
